PROJECT UPDATE 10/29-11/2
LET'S DIG!!!
This week we continued our journey towards mastering project based learning.
Students in the 6th and 7th grade History courses are AMAZING!!!!!! I'm so proud of all your hard work.
This week letters #3 and #4 were due for our Adam of the Road webquest. The creativity students displayed was remarkable, and we all learned a little bit more about Medieval Europe, as well. We also learned some very valuable skills such as letter writing, internet research, and paraphrasing.
ON Tuesday, October 30th -
We traveled back in time to the first day of school. Students pretended to forget everything they have learned and went through each step and stage to proposing a project.
(We did this because we never got a chance to put our Roman Newspaper Project in Project Foundry)
It was hysterical. Students pretended to meet each other for the first time, and we modeled the entire process of proposing a project. We brainstormed, we planned, we took notes, we broke down the standard and we decided on a group project!!!! - We decided to propose a Roman Newspaper Project.
Then we hit send - Complete. And our first project was officially done! And very successful. (Look for copies of our Roman Newspapers at the Celebration of Learning November 15th and 16th.)
Thursday, November 2nd
We spent our entire class time gathering information to keep going towards our goal of Mastering Standard 7.6–
Students were taken to an Interactive Medieval Europe and in small groups they were given a topic on Medieval Europe - such as Religion, Homes, Clothing, Health, Arts and Entertainment, and Town Life. They were assigned roles in the group such as:
CLARIFIER, PREDICTER, SUMMARIZER and QUESTIONER.
They also had to put all the information they gathered into a creative graphic organizer.
Finally, they presented what they learned to the class. We ran out of time in Block 1 and will continue to present our research this coming week.
NEXT WEEK 11/5-11/9
Tuesday, November 6th.
--3. Propose a English/History Project in Project Foundry. Pick from Adam's CyberGuide, any Adam of the Road Book Report, or propose your own project idea!!! (We were suppose to do this last week but we had so much fun with our internet research it got pushed back)
--We will propose your project in project foundry.
-- We will all be completing Graphic Organizers/Outlining as we start on the research phase of your project.
-- Some of you may have enough information to start CREATING your project.
Thursday, November 8th
-- Adam of the Road. Chapters 11-16. (As always, be prepared for a quiz)
FINALLY, we are two weeks away from our Celebration of Learning. We will continue work on our History/ELA Projects BUT we will also be working on our PORTFOLIOS, which is a showcase piece for parents.
Your PORTFOLIO will show off your work in English, Math, and Advisory, with a strong emphasis on Self Efficacy.
I only mention this because I want everyone to stay flexible in case we have to change things a bit to make sure we are ready for our celebration.
Either way, let's DIG!!!!
